Lent 2022
Spiritual Disciplines
During the Lenten period (Wednesday 2 March to Thursday 14 April, 2002) we are encouraging people to consider engaging in one of the many spiritual disciplines available to Christians. We have chosen three in particular (see below) which we think would be helpful. The idea is to commit to daily engagement with one of these practices over a short period. Hopefully, they will help deepen participant’s relationship with God and perhaps even be something to be practiced on an ongoing basis.
A quick search online will provide a great deal of information on each of the practices listed below, but here we have taken excerpts from Adele Ahlberg Calhoun’s excellent guide Spiritual Disciplines Handbook: Practices That Transform Us, Revised and Expanded Edition, (Downers Grove, IL: IVP Books, 2015).
Lectio Divina – prayerfully encounter and surrender to the living God through attending to Scripture.
Centering Prayer – quiet the heart and rest in God alone.
Journaling – to be alert to my life through writing and reflecting on God’s presence and activity in, around, and through me.
Bible Study
Over the Lenten period our Wednesday night bible study group will look at the following two short bible studies by Dr. Nick Hawkes:
Wednesday 2 March to Wednesday 23 March – The Messiah
Wednesday 30 March to Wednesday 20 April – The Last Seven Sayings of Jesus
